ENDOCRINE
Affecting almost every organ and cell in the body, the endocrine system is fascinating and complex. By processing materials which it selects and removes from the blood, an endocrine gland is able to produce finished chemicals which are then secreted for use somewhere in the body. The pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries (in females) and testicles (in males) make up the endocrine system. Each collection of glands produces hormones that regulate, among other things, the body’s metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sexual function, reproduction, sleep, and mood.
The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped gland in the neck that is found on both sides of the trachea (windpipe). It secretes the hormone thyroxine, which controls the rate of metabolism. Conditions of the thyroid gland, including hypothyroidism and cancer, fall within the treatment of Dr. Young.
